YES, they do!
I haven’t thought about this subject for a while: so, do they exist or not? I always thought that they did exist and fortunately some of them have crossed my way. After some time during which the theme did not emerge on my conscience, there appears one of them to remind me that they are around, here, there, anywhere.
After a week of work the word intense would describe weakly and after three and a half hours spent in traffic for a route that usually doesn’t take more than two (you see, it’s not just in North or South America that these things happen), I arrived at the airport ten minutes before the gates for my flight were closed. I managed to go through the fast track, but they of course decided to open my suitcase because it contained chocolate and they wanted to be sure it was indeed chocolate… They took an eternity, but the security gentleman told me to rest assured because flights were a little bit late. When I got to the gate, an announcement said that boarding was 30 minutes late. I had never been so happy for a flight that was late, for otherwise I would not have been able to fly… or better, have tried, because 35 minutes later, there came a new announcement: the flight had been cancelled. We were sent to Gate 50, where a lady whose dictionary doesn’t include the word sympathy said that she could not answer any question about the next flight, what would happen etc. All she knew was that we should go back to immigration, reenter the country and proceed to the company’s counter in order to try another flight, probably in the following day – all this with the sweetness of a lemmon.
Very well. I entered the country again, 45 minutes after I had left it, explained everything and proceeded to the queue, where I found out that there were around 50 people ahead of me. I tried to get help from the assistant that work with us, who managed to put a reservation for a flight on the same day, but guess? The flight would depart in 30 minutes! I thought: No! I can’t rush anymore today. I went to the electronic panel to check if boarding was already going on, when suddenly I heard a voice: “Can I help you, madame?”
Out of the blue, kind, smiling, there appeared a character that didn’t belong to that environment… I explained that I had to take a flight that would depart in 30 minutes and for that would need to go through check-in, through security which certainly would again open my hand suitcase and get to the gate, which presented a very considerable distance to cover. He said: “Come with me”, and I went.
We got at the air company’s check-in desk: already closed. He managed to reopen the check-in and I got my boarding pass.
Then he said: “Follow me, madame, I have to help you with Security. I’m not sure we will make it, because boarding has been going on for quite some time…”
We went to Security (who already knew me and did not understand why I was there again, and I had no time to explain) and managed to gently explain to everyone that I would have to go to the head of the queue and that I wouldn’t delay them more than two minutes, otherwise I would miss my flight. He accompanied me to the treadmill, helped me with the suitcase and said: “Madame, I’m not allowed to go any further, but madame will catch the flight and will have an excellent weekend”.
When I turned to thank him, he had already vanished, surely flapping his wings elsewhere, turning someone else’s life less complicated, lighter, making one more person happy.
In the rush, I forgot to ask what his name was. I saw he wore a name tag, but didn’t see the name. Do angels have a name anyway? If they don’t have backs, they probably don’t have a name either, isn’t it?
Whatever your name is, know I will have an excellent weekend. Thanks to you, GUARDIAN ANGEL!!!
